Cullman Regional welcomes board-eligible Psychiatrist Tyler Byrd, DO to the Cullman Regional Medical Group. A native of Oneonta, Alabama, he received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College and his medical degree from William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. After medical school, he completed his general psychiatry residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While in residency, Dr. Byrd has volunteered his time completing mental health evaluations at the Cullman County Jail and has been working with Cullman Regional to develop care protocols for Emergency department patients with acute mental health issues.
Dr. Byrd and his wife have one son and one dog. In their free time, they enjoy reading and trying new restaurants.
Dr. Byrd is excited to bring his expertise to the patients in the Cullman area. His office will be located in the new Cullman Regional Turning Point Health Center, located on the Cullman Regional Campus, in Professional Office Building 1, Suite 360. Dr. Byrd specializes in the following conditions for patients age 13 and up, including:
- Depressive disorders
- Anxiety & panic disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Bipolar disorder
- Adult ADHD
- Eating disorders
- Intellectual disabilities and behavioral problems
- Autism in adults
- Substance abuse disorders
- Alcohol use disorders
- Traumatic brain injury disorders and related behavioral problems
- Personality disorders
- Sexual and gender identity disorders
- Impulse control disorders
- Adjustment disorders
- Post-partum depression
- Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia
Dr. Byrd is passionate about improving the overall quality of life of his patients.
