Across the United States, hospital acquisition of physician practices has increased 128% since 2012 according to a study released in February by the Physicians Advocacy Institute (PAI). In addition, the study found that in July of 2012, only 35,700 physician practices were considered hospital-owned, but that number jumped to 80,000 practices by the start of 2018. Over the same five-and-half-year study period, the number of physicians employed by hospitals or health systems increased by more than 70 percent, growing from 94,700 employed physicians in mid-2012 to 168,800 employed physicians by the start of 2018.
“The healthcare landscape is changing, and Cullman Regional is dedicated to changing with it,” Clements said. “If that means partnering with local physicians or employing physicians and specialists to meet the needs of the community, we are dedicated to make sure our community consistently has physicians available to meet their healthcare needs locally.”
