Cullman Regional is pleased to announce that Family Medicine physician Haley Mabrey, MD, has been named interim director for the hospital’s proposed medical residency program. As interim
director, Dr. Mabrey will oversee certain aspects of program implementation including accreditation, design, and academic quality.

Dr. Mabrey is board certified in Family Medicine and currently practices at Cullman Regional Medical Group’s Internal & Family Medicine Clinic. She received her medical degree from the University of Alabama Medical School and completed her residency at Montgomery Family Medicine. Even though her role as interim director is considered temporary while the hospital recruits a permanent director, Dr. Mabrey is stepping in at a critical time for the residency program.

“We’re grateful to Dr. Mabrey for taking on this additional responsibility of helping the hospital to pursue program accreditation,” said Lisa Courtney, Cullman Regional Chief Operating Officer. “Her contributions at this early stage will be vital for the program’s
success.”

The first step to establish a medical residency program is obtaining accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, a private, non profit organization that sets professional and educational standards for all residency and fellowship training programs across the United States.

In August, Cullman Regional was awarded $3.8 million to establish a family medicine residency program with an obstetrics track to strengthen the pipeline of physicians prepared to provide maternity care. The funding was awarded through the state’s Rural Health Transformation Program.
